stranger on the street
Release Date: 9/04
Album: YOU DON'T KNOW ME
Writer: ADAM MARSLAND
Lyrics:
How can I explain myself to you,
giving you up so easily?
Sins and circumstances I couldnít help,
if I could see any other way Iíd follow it,
believe me,
but this is how it has to be so fly away and forget me,
'cause that's what you'll be - a stranger on the street,
just someone I could've known,
in a different time, in a parallel world,
you'd be my baby girl.
I'll miss you forever, my beautiful mistake,
goodbye, little one.
Guilt and recrimination I'll never shake -
the best thing for you is the hardest thing I've ever done,
and I'll look for you in every face I ever see
and in every place,
'cause that's what you'll be - a stranger on the street.
Adam sez:
To me, a sadder song than "Ginna Ling," but probably the least-known and least-loved song on YOU DON'T KNOW ME, "Stranger On The Street" is partly inspired by a Derrick Anderson song called "I Wish You The Best," which is about a young mother giving her child up for adoption. Conjuring up some of my own family history, I got a bit choked up singing the vocal, but Paul Lacques' lonesome guitar pulls the song back from maudlin territory (I think).
